A Reflection of My Choreographic Process So Far

A REFLECTION OF MY CHOREOGRAPHIC PROCESS SO FAR

This blog will will entirely based on my current choreographic process of my 10 minute piece.

I would like to say I am happy with where I am with my choreography but I have had some set backs. For the past week I have become incredibly ill so I was unable to attend lessons and have the studio space to create and practice my movement which has hindered my process slightly. Once I did start feeling a bit better, but was still unable to attend classes, I used my room to mark out my choreography so it was still in my body and brain.

Referring back to the learning objectives, I am confident I have achieved the understanding of information that is processed effectively as my choreography has sections based from my stimulus that shows my understanding about it specifically and what ideas I have brought from this idea into my choreography through movement. As I am slightly behind of where I wanted to be, what I want to achieve is to create more motif's and continue with my research to prepare myself for the new year. To ensure this, I need to create sufficient time to execute all of this and give myself a rough plan of when and what I need to do.

Since performing my choreography, I have reflected and looked back on my given feedback in times where I felt stuck or needed more inspiration when it came to creating movement. For example; because the statue has no arms, I became so focused on thinking of what other body parts I can use instead of my arms that when it came to the section where my arms appear and are free to move that I actually became stuck on movement. But once I became aware of what the section was about, I found the flow of it and I am really happy about it. For this in particular, I would apply the feedback in this section with making it more of a significant moment when my arms release and commit to this to draw the audience in. When it comes to applying my feedback to my choreography as a whole, I need to think about the expression of the character and the performance value to create more of a connection so the audience can become more invested in the story line.

Shown below are some small clips on ideas based around not being able to move my arms as well as my arms becoming free and practicing to make this as big and significant as mentioned above.
