CONTINUING ON THE CREATIVE PROCESS
During this week, I wanted to rehearse my piece to my peers so I could recieve external feedback from their point of view instead of correcting it myself. From this activity, I was told that my floor pattern throughout my solo was quite limited and I found that I was on travelling side to side across the studio.
Since being presented with this feedback, I came up with the idea of creating a floor plan using the outline of the sculpture as the base of it. The picture shown above is my own drawing of the sculpture and from this, I will perform the third section of my piece with this floor pattern in mind. With the section being about the texture of the sculpture, I thought this would fit best and make sense to the audience as I will be performing the performing movements of the texture whilst dancing the structure of the sculpture.
Refering back to the texture, I came across an encyclopedia of sculpture where it displays a variety of information explaining the contents of marble sculpture. I came across a paragraph titled 'Characteristics of Marble as a Sculptural Material' where it states that "Sculptors like marble because, while relatively soft and easy to work when first quarried, it becomes extremely hard and dense with age"(Marble Sculpture: Characteristics, Types, History, 2022) This immediatly appealed to me and helped me to create more of an idea on how I will perform and execute my movements in the third section relating to texture. I will start with the section with softer as mentioned above with the marble being easy to work with, then have it leading to harder and almost rigid movements to portray the texture densing with age.
