PERSONAL REVIEW & REFLECTION
At this current stage, I have finished my full draft of my 10 minute choreography. In this time frame from now to my performance, it is important that I look back into my work by reviewing, reflect and evaluating.
Throughout my choreographic process, I have referred back to the choreography module guide provided to ensure that I have included what was informed in the learning outcomes. I am confident that I have a specialised knowledge on my chosen choreographer, Russell Maliphant as well as even experiencing an online class with him. This meant I could have a personal understanding on how my choreographer interprets his own qualities into his work. As well as this, I have throughly looked into my stimulus with a number of references about the sculpture itself and my own in-depth research.
Looking back into my piece, the last few weeks were definetly a struggle for me as I couldn't fully decide on an ending as well as having some gaps throughout my choreography. After deciding what my ending was, I found that I still had some gaps in my piece that I was unsure what movement to choreograph. As the gaps were only 30/40 seconds roughly, I chose to leave them as improvisation on the day and let what my body and my choreographic mind would come up with whilst performing the final piece. As well as this, I referred back to a resource I had found previously of an interview with Russell Maliphant and a platform called 'Lucy Writers' where he mentions that he is "interested in creating in creating movement through focused and expressive abstraction"(Diamantouli, 2019) Instead of completely making movement up completely on the spot, I will make sure that I have the idea of expressive abstraction in my mind that will refer to the sculpture. I also found this helpful mentally as I was worried about remembering all of my movement so with the choice of imporvisation, I wouldn't have any blank moments and forget choreography.
As mentioned in my previous blogs, I realised that I was struggling with an idea of an ending so I turned to my tutor for advice and feedback which I found extremely helpful as it gave me ideas on what further research I can look into which is when I came across the fight between Milos wanting their masterpiece back and France wanting to keep it. This for me created a good ending as I could base the final movements on being stuck in its orginal form (the position of the sculpture) instead of being free in its orgin place therefore, the feedback I recieved was extremely successful as it got me out of a choreographic blank.
